In 2006 the League organized the first G8 Youth Summit in St. Petersburg. Students of the best political universities from 8 countries performed the role of presidents and ministers of their countries and within five days of negotiations they have established communique in which they proposed specific ways to solve urgent, from their point of view, problems.
«The Summit of Youth Russian and EU Leaders» took place in St. Petersburg 22–29 April in 2007 and was organized by the International Youth Diplomacy League and the Foundation for Democracy with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the European Commission, the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Government of St. Petersburg, number of General Consulates and Embassies of the European Union, the St. Petersburg branch of LLC «Business Russia», the Council of Rectors in St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg State University Faculty of International Relations.
The main objectives of the summit included the involvement of youth in the process of expressing ideas about the current situation in the world, identifying the problems interesting for young people, reporting this information to those who are responsible for the fate of the world now, search for alternative ways to address pressing issues of our time, forecasting situation in the future, culturing the necessary skills in young people: from the ability to communicate with other cultures to the sense of responsibility for the future of the world.
