About
The idea of creating a new format of international meetings, which is the «G8 & G20 Youth Summits», belongs to the Russian non-governmental organization - the International Youth Diplomacy League, the initiator and creator of the project in 2005 in anticipation of the G8 Summit in St. Petersburg. In 2006 at the Mariinsky Palace in St. Petersburg the League organized such project for the first time. The annual Youth Summit (2007 — Berlin, 2008 — Tokyo, 2009 — Milan) gathers students and young political leaders from eight countries, and since 2010 – from twenty countries (2010 — Vancouver, 2011 — Paris, 2012 — Washington).
Participants of the youth summit, along with the leaders of their countries discuss and seek solutions to international issues in education, energy security and stabilization of world energy markets, the development of innovative technologies and renewable energy, environmental protection, health, etc. As a part of the Youth Summit, young representatives participate in discussions and meetings with political leaders and well-known experts. Youth Summit participants are young people aged 18 to 30 who are recruited in the G8 and G20 countries in the national competitions.
